Shades of Grey
I started this work with the process of making a map of my heart. I decided to make a map of my heart because I felt like I wanted to express a regret. I choose chicken wire for my armature. I bend the chicken wire in the form of my face and then cut out the eyes and mouth to make the face look more realistic. The materials that I use for my armature skin are plastic wrap, aluminum foil, and vinyl. I use plastic wrap because it was a different style, I didn’t want the armature to be made out of aluminum foil only. I also use the vinyl to show the meaning of my piece (regrets). I put my prints on the wall before hanging my piece. I put my prints from darkest to lightest to make it more interesting.
What I can do well is, use different colors in my artwork. I'm good at combining colors as you see in the pictures above. I use multiple colors in my work because I like to push myself as and artist and not do everything the same color. Lastly, I use colors to make my art pop out and look more realistic.
I want to get better at making human faces and at adding details to drawings. I want to get better at this because I enjoy making faces and drawing eyes and specially noses. It's hard for me because I don't know how to add details to the work. I know that in the time that I'll be in school I'll have this skill by the end of my senior year because I practice a lot drawing faces.
I transformed from and art student and artist by challenging myself and working big. I've change a lot in the time that I've been in BAA. I didn't like to challenge myself and think big. all of the work that I have from the past years are all small but as and artist I've learn that sometimes you need to take risk and work out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself. I used all of the feedback that's I've gotten from my teachers and peers and used them in my art pieces.
My artistic process is brainstorm and talking about what I want to make. Most of the time I talk about what I want to make because it helps me think more and my peers can also help me and sometimes give me feedback if what they think about my idea. After I talk about it I make little sketches of what is going to look like so when I start working on it I won't get stuck on how is going to look.
My favorite artist are Sue Webster and Tim noble because they use recycling materials and they make does recycling materials to sculptures. I like how they use light to reflect the image in the wall. Their artwork connects to one of my pieces. The 3D self portrait, it connects to that specific pieces because I use materials that they use in their artwork to creat the self portrait. Tim and Sue have inspire me to create work like their work and I will try to make more pieces that connect to them and also sculpting different stuff.
